Théophile Tilmant
Théophile Tilmant ( born July 9, 1799 in Valenciennes, † 8 May 1878 in Asnières -sur -Seine ) was a French violinist and conductor.
Tilmant was a pupil of Rodolphe Kreutzer. He was first orchestra at the Opéra -Comique and the Paris Opera. Between 1827 and 1832 he conducted the Orchestre du Gymnase musical, besides, he was also conductor at the Théâtre-Italien. From 1849 to 1868, he was chief conductor of the Opéra- Comique.
Under his leadership, inter alia, Le toréador (1848 ) and Le Sourd ou l' Auberge Pleine (1853 ) by Adolphe Adam and Galathée (1852 ) and Les noces de Jeannette (1853 ) by Victor Massé premiered. In 1861 he was awarded the Legion of Honour.
