Thirty Three & 1/ 3 is the ninth album; or the fifth solo studio album by George Harrison after the separation of the Beatles. It was on 19 November 1976 (USA: November 22, 1976) published. In the U.S., the album came eleventh in the UK and number 35 on the charts; in Germany it could not place itself.

Genesis

After January 26, 1976 George Harrison was no longer contractually bound to Apple Records and moved to his own Dark Horse label, which was in turn contracted with A & M Records. The recordings for the album took place between May and September 1976 in Harrison's home studio Friars Park Studio, Henley-on -Thames ( FPSHOT ) instead. During the recording sessions fell ill George Harrison hepatitis and interrupted further work on the album, which led to A & M Records Harrison sued because he the scheduled deadline, 25 June 1976 ( on this day was George Harrison 33 and 1 /3 years old) for the master tapes did not keep. It was generally assumed that A & M Records, wanted to end the collaboration with Harrison because his albums and single releases by Living in the Material World had not fulfilled the commercial expectations. Then joined George Harrison with his label to Warner Brothers. The Dark Horse label published as of this date only works by George Harrison.

For the album several PhD theses of George Harrison were carried out, so he visited in November 1976 five U.S. cities for interviews and joined on 18 November in the comedy show Saturday Night Live with Paul Simon, together Here Comes the Sun and Homeward Bound sang a duet. The latter song was released in July 1990 on the album Nobody 's Child Romanian Angel Appeal. In addition, still appeared the promotional interview album Dark Horse Records presents a personal music dialogue with George Harrison. In February 1977 George Harrison had an appearance on the German TV show Disco '77 ZDF.

The origin composition of Woman Do not You Cry for Me dated according to George Harrison on the year 1968, the title was originally on the album All Things Must Pass. Dear One was written in honor of Paramahansa Yogananda. With the work on Beautiful Girl Harrison began in 1969, completed the text but only in the year 1976. Crackerbox Palace is another humorous song that was influenced by the comedians " Lord Buckley " who called his house in Los Angeles " Crackerbox Palace ". The song Learning How to Love You was originally written by Harrison for Herb Alpert, but was ultimately taken by the composer himself.

The first single This Song ( Edit) / Learning How to Love You was released in November 1976 and reached number 25 in the U.S. ( no placements in the UK and Germany ).

True Love

In the UK, two more singles were released: True Love / Pure Smokey ( February 1977 ) could not be placed in the charts.

It's What You Value

It's What You Value / Woman Do not You Cry for Me ( June 1977), was also released exclusively in the UK and could not be placed in the charts.

Crackerbox Palace

In January 1977, released in the U.S. the single Crackerbox Palace / Learning How to Love You, which reached number 19 in the charts.

In Germany was released as the second single in April 1977 Crackerbox Palace / True Love ( no placement in the charts ).

Reissues

First published in CD format was made in June 1991 without bonus tracks. In March 2004, the album was re-released on CD in the EMI Group with the bonus track Tears of the World in a newly remastered version. But this song is not from the recording sessions of the album, but was recorded during the recording of the album Somewhere in England. The first publication was made in February 1988 Songs by George Harrison, in this limited release, there is a four - track EP with a picture book, of which all copies were signed by George Harrison.
