Thomas Drummond

Thomas Drummond ( born October 10, 1797 in Edinburgh, Scotland, † April 15, 1840 in Dublin, Ireland ) was a British officer, engineer, and civil servant.

The system introduced by him lime light is also called Drummond chromatic light.

After his education was Drummond cadet at the Royal Military Academy, where he was trained as a royal engineer. After working in Edinburgh in a public authority and as a surveyor in the Scottish Highlands, he went to new Bureau of Land Surveying Ireland. There he demonstrated in 1824 that the lime light was still visible in 68 miles and so much more gas or oil lamps used until then.

From 1835 until his death in 1840 Drummond was the Under-Secretary for Ireland, in one of the four highest British officials in Ireland.
