Thomas Faed

Thomas Faed ( born June 8, 1826 in Gatehouse of Fleet, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland, † August 17 1900 in London) was a British painter of realism.

His brother and first teacher was John Faed. He was trained at the Edinburgh College of Art, 1849, he was with the image of Scott and his friends a member of the Royal Scottish Academy, three years later he went to London in 1861 as a member of the Royal Academy of Arts and in 1864 Academician. In 1875 he was made an honorary member of the Vienna Academy. In 1893, he went into retirement. He painted many remarkable images, three of them (The Silken Gown, Faults on Both Sides and The Highland Mother ) were exhibited in the National Gallery of British Art.

Faed especially painted scenes from the life of the people of the Scottish Highlands and the working classes. His aptly drawn characters brought him popularity with the public one, but the criticism complained to tame and uniform style and color his.
