Thomas Huschke

Huschke Thomas ( born December 29, 1947 in Berlin ) is a former German cyclist and World Champion.

Career

Thomas Huschke is from a known cycling family. His grandfather Adolf and his great-uncle Richard were successful cyclist.

Huschke, a member of the Berliner TSC, drove mainly as an amateur on the web. He was 13 times GDR champion in the disciplines of individual pursuit, team pursuit, Tandem, in Madison and in pacemaker race. He successfully participated in a road race. He won a stage of the 1973 Peace Race.

For the web - Country East Germany Huschke drove in 1969 the three countries struggle against the Netherlands, Italy and the USSR in the 4000 -m team pursuit. Together with Heinz Richter, Bernhard Bernd Gruner and writer, he won all three races. Against Italy, the East German foursome drove 4:29,4 minutes new German record of the GDR and Weltjahresbestleistung for cement paths. At the end of the respective comparisons of the GDR won 8:7 against the Netherlands, 8,5:6,5 against Italy and lost 8,5:9,5 against the USSR.

In August 1969, Huschke started at the Track World Cup in Brno in competition at the 4000 -m team pursuit. In the same cast as in the previous countries fighting ( Huschke, H. Richter, Gruner, recorder), the East German team finished fifth in qualifying in 4:37,13 minutes. In the quarterfinals, the four then met on the USSR. Despite an increase in 4:32,73 minutes, the GDR team lost by 81 hundredths of a second against the USSR and thus missed the semi-finals.

1975 Huschke was world champion in the individual pursuit. At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, he won silver with the DDR - four in the team pursuit. Four years later in Montreal in 1976, he won the bronze medal in the individual pursuit. In 1977, Thomas Huschke DDR Champion stayer and 1979 runner-up.

After ending his racing career Huschke began studying economics and a doctorate. A short time he worked as a marketing expert of the German Gymnastics and Sports Association of the GDR.
