Thomas Wenski

Thomas Gerard Wenski ( born October 18, 1950 in West Palm Beach, Florida, United States) is a Roman Catholic Archbishop of Miami.

Life

Thomas Wenski, the son of Polish immigrants, was born in West Palm Beach and grew up in Lake Worth. He studied at St. John Vianney Minor Seminary in West Chester and the St. Vincent de Paul Major Seminary in Boynton Beach. After his ordination on May 15, 1976, he was active in the largely Spanish-speaking parish of Corpus Christi in Miami. After further training at the Pierre Toussaint Haitian Catholic Center ( " Notre Dame d' Haiti" ), where he learned the traditions of Haiti and Haitian Creole, he had in 1979 an apostolate for the Haitian believers, mostly immigrants, at Saint Mary's Cathedral in Miami. In 1996 he was appointed director of Catholic Charities Miami that works in particular with Caritas Cuba. He was also director of the Pierre Toussaint Haitian Catholic Center until 1997.

Pope John Paul II appointed him in 1997 as Titular Bishop of Kearney and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Miami. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Miami John Favalora on 3 September 1997; Co-consecrators were the Archbishop Emeritus of Miami Edward A. McCarthy and Agustín Román Rodríguez, auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Miami. In 2003 he was appointed Coadjutor in the Diocese of Orlando and followed in 2004 by Norbert Dorsey as diocesan bishop.

2010 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. For the fourth Archbishop of Miami.
