Thongloun Sisoulith

Thongloun Sisoulith ( born November 10, 1945 in the province of Houaphan, Laos ) is a Laotian politician.

Life and work

Sisoulith first completed from 1962 to 1969 to study at the College of Education at the Lao Patriotic Front ( Neo Lao Hak Sat) in the province of Houaphan. While still a student, he was from 1967 to 1969 Employees of the teaching department of the Patriotic Front.

After graduation he was during the Vietnam War to 1973 employees in the representation of the Patriotic Front in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Hanoi. Subsequently, he studied from 1973 to 1978 at the Pedagogical Institute in Leningrad and where she earned a Masters in language and literature. After his return to Laos, he was at least one year instructor at the University of Vientiane, a forerunner of today's National University of Laos. This was followed from 1979 to 1981 to be used as Secretary and Head of the Department of Foreign Affairs in the Ministry of Education.

In the following years he studied at the Academy of Social Sciences in Moscow and received his doctorate there in 1984 as a Doctor of Philosophy ( Ph.D.) in history. After his re- return to Laos, he was from 1985 to 1986, first director of the department of public research in the Council of Ministers Office and then from 1987 to 1992 Vice- Minister for Foreign Affairs.

He was appointed as Minister of Labour and Social Welfare in the Cabinet of Khamtay Siphandone in 1993 and was the Council of Ministers until 1997. In 1998 he was elected a member of the National Assembly and represented in this until 2003, the Lao People's Revolutionary Party ( LPRP ).

Under Siphandones successor as Chairman of the Council of Ministers Boungnang Vorachith he was appointed on 27 March 2001 as Deputy Prime Minister. At the same time he was Chairman of the Committee for Planning and Cooperation, the Committee for Investment and cooperation, and the National Committee for Energy. He became a member of the Political Bureau of the LPRP and therefore the narrowest circle of the party leadership also 2001.

Following the appointment of Bouasone Bouphavanh as Prime Minister he was on 8 June 2006 as part of the formation of the government Minister for Foreign Affairs. At the same time he was confirmed as Deputy Prime Minister and as a member of the Political Bureau of the LPRP.
