Three Imaginary Boys

Three Imaginary Boys is the debut album by the British band The Cure. It was released in May 1979 by Fiction Records. In the U.S. and in Australia, the album under the title Boys Do not Cry was released.

History

The album was recorded in the fall of 1978 with producer Chris Parry. Originally sung by bass player Michael Dempsey Jimi Hendrix Cover Foxy Lady, which was created at a sound check, not to be on the album. The label decided without the consent of the band, which songs should be included in the album. Even the artwork was set by the label. Since then, consists singer Robert Smith on keeping creative control of all projects of the band. The album consists of only short songs, few of which exceed the three- minute mark.

Reception

Chris True wrote in his review for Allmusic Guide, the album was not only a very strong debut album, but almost a curiosity. It is one of the poppigsten albums by The Cure.

The Rolling Stone rated the album, although only 3.5 points led it, however in the list 500 best albums of all time at number 438
