Thromboxane receptor
- OMIM: 188070
- UniProt: P21731
The thromboxane receptor ( TXA2 -R ) is a membrane-bound G protein- coupled receptor in vertebrates that mediates the clumping of platelets in humans. TXA2 -R belongs to the group of prostaglandin receptors. Mutations in the gene may cause hemophilia TBXA2R.
When TXA2 -R is activated by thromboxane, it causes in conjunction with an increase of intracellular inositol triphosphate Ca2 ( Gq -coupled receptor). This results in:
- In platelet aggregation thereof.
- In smooth muscle contraction thereof.
