Thurisaz

Thurisaz or Thornuz ( ᚦ ) is the third rune of the Elder Futhark runic alphabet and the Old Norse with the phonetic value of th. The reconstructed Proto-Germanic name meaning " giant" ( Thurse ) or " thorn" and appear in the rune poems thurs as Old Norse, Old English thorn or gothic thyth.

Use in modern times

As a " Thorn " ( Þ þ) found the characters in Old English they were introduced into the Latin writing system. In Iceland it has survived to the modern day as a character, its phonetic value corresponds to the ( unvoiced ) English th. In addition, the characters in the transcription of the Old Norse and (often) used the Gothic language instead of th.
