Èšicleni

Ţicleni is a small town in Gorj County in Romania.

Geographical location

Ţicleni is located in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains on the edge of the valley floor Depresiunea Târgu Jiu in a left tributary of the river Jiu channeled here ( German Shield ). The district capital Târgu Jiu is located about 20 km north-west.

History

On the territory of today's bone of a mammoth, several archaeological finds from the centuries have been discovered before the Christian era, and remains of a Geto - Dacian fortress.

The earliest written evidence of the existence of the town dates from 1612, when in a certificate issued in Targoviste the limits of today eingemeindeten place Tunsi have been described.

The long time, country-style place changed its character radically in the 20th century, were discovered as petroleum and natural gas reserves and promoted on a large scale since the end of World War II. Ţicleni became an industrial center. This brought an economic boom but also major environmental problems. At the beginning of oil production all waste water and residues were passed untreated into the Jiu River and its tributaries.

1968 Ţicleni received the status of a city. The main industries are in addition to the production of oil and natural gas, wood and food processing and agriculture (including orchards and vineyards ).

Population

1930 lived on the territory of today's approximately 2,600 residents, including about 50 Roma; the rest were Romanians. As of the 2002 census, 5,205 inhabitants were counted in Ţicleni, including 5,185 Romanians and 17 Roma.

Traffic

Ţicleni has no rail connection. There are bus connections to Târgu Jiu.
