Timarete

Timarete, active probably in the Hellenistic period, was a Greek painter from Athens. She was the daughter of a painter named Micon, probably not the famous painter Micon, and was praised especially for an old-fashioned image of Artemis of Ephesus. Pliny the Elder, Naturalis historia 35, 147 calls the first of the painters, ahead of Eirene, Kalypso, Aristarete, Iaia and Olympias.
