The beginnings of an independent Albanian Church organization emerged in the United States under the Albanian immigrants. They felt oppressed by the dominant Greeks in the local Orthodox communities. In 1908, Fan Noli (1882 - 1965) by Plato, the Russian Orthodox Archbishop of New York City, ordained a priest. In the same year, Fan Noli celebrated in Boston for the first time the liturgy in the Albanian language.
