Timo Kahlen

Timo Kahlen (* 1966 in Berlin ) is a German media and sound artist from Berlin.

Life and work

Timo Kahlen implemented for more than 25 years, sound sculptures and sound installations, wind and light works as well as experimental net art, photo and video works. His interdisciplinary and intermediary work at the frontiers of perception, especially with intangible, ephemeral materials, such as wind and steam, light and shadow, noise, vibration and sound was nominated for the Award for Young European Photographers (1989 ), the Kahnweiler Award for Sculpture (2001 ), the German sound Art Award (2006 ), a grant from the Arts Fund (2010) and as well as numerous other scholarships, including in Washington, Berlin, Paris and Guernsey.

His work has been shown internationally in more than 140 exhibitions of contemporary media art since the mid-80s, including Sound Art ( ZKM Karlsruhe, 2012-2013), Mediations Biennale: The Unknown ( Poznan 2012), expanded soundtrack: The speaker (Vienna, 2010 - 2011), Noise & Beauty (Stiftung Starke Berlin 2010 ), " 60 x 60 " (New York, 2010 ), Manifesta 7: Scenarios (Italy 2008), sound Art: German sound Art Award 2006 ( sculpture Museum Marl, art cologne, Traumzeitfestival Duisburg time), Wireless Experience ( Helsinki 2004 ), Time Sculpture: Volume as an event (Upper Austrian state Gallery Linz 1997) and the solo exhibition " Timo Kahlen: Working with Wind " (1991) establishing the Kunst-Werke Berlin.

Timo Kahlen is a master student of the University of the Arts Berlin ( 1993) with Dieter Appelt. He lives and works in Berlin. He is the son of the video artist Wolf Kahlen, and since 1985 to support the work of the ruin of the Arts Berlin, a place for material and immaterial for the arts. From 1993 to 1998, Kahlen received a teaching mission of the University of Arts Berlin and the Humboldt University of Berlin in the areas of visual media and video art.
