Todor Ivanchov

Todor Iwantschow (Bulgarian: Тодор Иванчов ) (* 1858 in Veliko Tarnovo, † 1905 or 1906 in Paris) was a Bulgarian politician and Prime Minister.

Biography

Study and career

After his school education at Robert College in Istanbul, he graduated in medicine and economics at the University of Montpellier.

After his return to Bulgaria he was from 1878 to 1879 teachers in Dryanovo and thereafter until 1883 Rectors in Kyustendil. Following this, he was Director of the Bureau of Statistics. In addition, he was editor of the newspaper " Turnovská Konstitutsia " and " Narodni Prava ".

Minister and Prime Minister from 1899 to 1901

Iwantschow began his political career on 24 August 1886 as he was for four days, Minister of Public Education in the interim government of Petko Karavelov. This office he held also on 7 September 1886 to July 10, 1887 in the first cabinet of Vasil Radoslawow. After the founding of the Liberal Party ( LPR ), which also Radoslawowisten after him ( партия Либералната - радославистка ) was called, he was one of their most ardent supporters and their representatives as a deputy in the National Assembly from 1886 to 1889 as well as 1899 until 1900.

On 30 January 1899 he was appointed by Prime Minister Dimitar Panayotov Grekow turn to the Minister of Public Instruction. After his resignation, he was finally appointed on 13 October 1899 by Prince Ferdinand I himself as prime minister. In his reigning until January 25, 1901 Cabinet he was at the same time until December 25, 1900 Foreign Minister and Minister of Religious Affairs and then Minister of Finance. In his study he also appointed his party chairman Radoslawow the Interior, as such, undertook a series of reforms of the civil service.

In 1903 he was sentenced by a court for unconstitutional activities during his tenure as Minister in the Cabinet Radoslawow to an eight-month prison sentence, but later pardoned.
