Tony MÃ¥rtensson

Tony Hans Mårtensson ( born June 23, 1980 in Upplands Väsby ) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player. Since 2004 he is at Linköpings HC of the Swedish Elitserien under contract and currently plays on loan with the SKA Saint Petersburg.

Career

Tony Mårtensson began his career at the Arlanda Wings, for those in the Swedish Division 1 and he was in the 1996 to 2000 initially for three years, finally a game while in the HockeyAllsvenskan active. Then, the attacker moved to Brynäs IF, for in the Elitserien he was on the ice for two years. During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in the seventh round in 2001 when a total of 224 players from the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. From 2002 to 2004 the Swede played mainly for their farm team, the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of the American Hockey League. Only in the 2003/04 season he scored two points scorer, including a goal in six games for Anaheim in the National Hockey League.

In summer 2004, Mårtensson returned to his native Sweden, where he received a contract with Linköpings HC. With Linköping he was in 2007 and 2008 Swedish runner-up. In addition, he received in the 2007/ 08 season the Guldhjälmen as most valuable player of the season, was top scorer of the main round, best assist provider of Elitserien main round of the playoffs as well. For the 2008/ 09 season Mårtensson was loaned to Ak Bars Kazan of the newly formed Kontinental Hockey League, with whom he won the Gagarin Cup. He was awarded the SKA Saint Petersburg for the seasons 2010/11 and 2011 /12.

Internationally

For Sweden, Mårtensson took at junior level at the U18 European Junior Championships in 1998 and U20 Junior World Championship 2000 part. In the senior, he was active in the World Championships in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. In the Under-18 European Junior Championships in 1998 and World Cup 2006 Mårtensson was European or world champion with his team. At the World Championships in 2009 and 2010 he won bronze.
