Torbalı

Torbalı is a county and the accompanying county town in the Turkish province of Izmir. Torbalı is located about 20 km southeast of Izmir on the E 87 from Izmir to Aydin. 2009, the county 124 581 inhabitants, the city of 113 211.

The city lies in a plane of the Küçük Menderes river valley and is surrounded to the north and west by mountains. The highest point of the county is the Keçikalesi Dagi 781 m. The status as a district received Torbalı 1926. A year later, the city became a Belediye. For the district has 22 villages.

Attractions

About 5 km south-west to the village Özbey lie the ruins of the ancient city of Metropolis in Ionia, the previous settlement of the city. The name Torbalı derived from Metropolis. 30 km north on the road to Kemalpaşa is the Hittite rock relief of Karabel.
