Touch Dance

Touch Dance is a remix album by British pop duo Eurythmics. It was published despite the intervention of the band in May 1984 as part of a low price action by RCA Records.

Background

Following the success of previous album Touch RCA Records decided to release four tracks on the album as part of a low price action as a remix. Basis were the tracks recorded during the sessions for touch, remixed by the French DJ François Kevorkian and the American John " Jellybean " Benitez. Initially attracted by the idea, Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart took part in New York on the final mix. They also made sure that the album was not offered at full price. After the Eurythmics had heard the final version, they were very dissatisfied with the result and called Touch Dance " predictable and uninspired ." Stewart stated that the publication was not made with the consent of the Eurythmics. From May 1984 Touch Dance has been offered through the retail chain Woolworth's for the price of £ 2.99.

Music

Were used The First Cut, Cool Blue and Paint a Rumour each in a version with vocals on the A-side and an instrumental version on the LP B-side. The fourth song on the A side Regrets is represented. The versions of The First Cut and Cool Blue differed not audible from the album versions, at Paint a Rumour singing with rhythm effects was provided. The most noticeable change is a revamped Regrets, whose pace was reduced to a level moody, among which, however, suffers from the vocals of Annie Lennox. The instrumental version of The First Cut is suffering under the lack of audible vocals, while the last two remixes Cool Blue and Paint a Rumour of all the titles represented works best.

Reception

William Ruhlmann of Allmusic writes that the album more than for DJs or for listeners is interesting that interested in how different the same song can sound. For the average buyer, however Touch Dance would be uninteresting, because the remixes are not really better than the original versions.
