Tovuz District
Tovuz is a rayon in the west of Azerbaijan. The capital of the district is the city Tovuz. The district is bordered to the north by Georgia, to the south by Armenia.
Geography
The district has an area of 412 km ². The region is hilly in the south, where it merges in the Lesser Caucasus Mountains, just to the north. In the region there are rich ore and precious metal deposits, especially gold.
Population
In Rayon lived 2009 157.400 people. These are spread over 113 settlements.
Economy
The region is dominated by agriculture. There is wine, vegetables, fruits and grains grown and operated livestock.
Culture
In the places Gazgulu, Vakhidli, Agdam, Alibeili, Yanakhli and Azadli are ancient cemeteries. There is also a larger number of mausoleums, fortresses and towers.
Traffic
Through the rayon the highway and the railway line to Georgia runs.
