Transcription factor II B

The transcription factor IIB ( TFIIB ) is a protein that binds in the cell nucleus of vertebrate DNA and takes part in the initiation of transcription. TFIIB particular is responsible for detection, if applicable, BRE element in the core promoter of the respective gene. During assembly of the preinitiation complex binds to the promoter - TFIIB, TFIID complex TFIIA (DA complex), thus forming the DAB complex binds to the end, the RNA polymerase II. For the DNA-binding TFIIB contains a zinc finger domain.

TFIIB interacts with the active site of the RNA polymerase. This may prevent the polymerase without the pre-initiation complex binds to the DNA, and thus, the accuracy of positioning safely.

TFIIB is also able to form complexes with TCEA2, GPBP1, the HIV Vpr protein, and Epstein -Barr virus, EBNA2 protein.
