Transnet

Transnet is a South African company, the railways, ports and pipelines operates. Transnet is majority owned by the South African government and is therefore by the Department of Public Enterprises ( German: Ministry of Public operator).

Transnet was formed in 1990 from the predecessor company South African Transport Services ( SATS ), in which Spoornet, the former state railway company, South African Port Operations, which operate South Africa's ports, Petronet, a former company for freight transport in pipelines, and other infrastructure companies were summarized.

Seat of Transnet is the Carlton Centre in Johannesburg.

Departments

Transnet National Ports Authority

The Transnet National Ports Authority, formerly the National Ports Authority, briefly NPA, ( German: National Port Authority ) operates the infrastructure of eight port areas: Durban and East London, Port Cape Town, Port Ngqura ( Coega ) harbor Richards Bay and Port Saldanha, also in Mossel Bay and Port Elizabeth. Ngqura / Coega is the youngest sea port ( in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, Eastern Cape Province) and will be expanded to the seaport since 2002.

The largest shipping has Durban with 32 percent of the ship's movements, followed by Cape Town and Richards Bay with 27 percent and 9 percent, with Port Elizabeth, East London and Saldanha on each accounted for about 3 percent. In the port of Richards Bay is one of the world's biggest coal loading terminals.

Transnet Port Terminals

Transnet Port Terminals, formerly South African Port Operations ( SAPO ) ( German: South African port operations ), operates RoRo terminals, container terminals and other port facilities operated by the National Ports Authority ports. Regarding the port in Maputo there is a co-operation agreement with Mozambique's Maputo Port Development Company.

Transnet Freight Rail

Transnet Freight Rail, abbreviated TFR ( German: " freight train " ) is the largest division of Transnet. It is the state-owned railway company that operates the South African rail network and used. TFR is the successor organization of the former South African Railways and changed its name between 1990 and 2007 under the name of Spoornet.

Transnet Rail Engineering

Transnet Rail Engineering, abbreviated TRE, builds locomotives, wagons and other components associated with the railway.

Transnet pipelines

Transnet Pipelines, formerly Petronet, operates the South African pipeline network.
