Treaty of Montmartre

The Treaty of Montmartre was closed on February 6, 1662 between the French King Louis XIV and Charles IV, Duke of Lorraine. With this agreement, France gained control of the Duchy of Lorraine.

Conversely, the non- Capetian House of Guise, a branch line of the Lorraine ducal house, the succession in France was promised, in the event that the Bourbons should become extinct, including the families Condé, Conti and Orléans.

In this point, the claims of the house Courtenay were passed over in the contract, which were also a branch line of the Capetians. Their protests against the agreement were not considered.

Negotiator was on the French side Hugues de Lionne, the foreign minister was the following year.
