Trio Lescano

The Trio Lescano was a vocal trio, which was very popular in Italy 1935-1943. It was one of the first girl groups in Europe and consisted of the sisters Alexandrina Eveline Leschan called Sandra ( born July 29, 1910 in Gouda, † 1 February 1987 in Fidenza ), Judik Leschan ( born August 8, 1913 - August 8 2007) and Catherine Mathieu Leschan called Kitty ( born November 23, 1919 in Aiax, † 1965 in Caracas ). Their names were Italianized into Alessandra, Giuditta and Caterinetta ( Caterina ) Lescano.

Life

The father was a Hungarian circus performer, her mother a Dutch operetta singer from a musical family of Jewish descent. After tours in Europe, Syria and Lebanon, as they initially called themselves The Sunday Girls, success came in Italy, where the sisters were established and in a short time the most popular singers of the Mussolini era. On March 30, 1942, she naturalized the Italian king Vittorio Emanuele III. at the suggestion of Mussolini. In November 1943, the trio was arrested during a concert in a Genoese theater and put in prison for alleged espionage. Italian enemies of the Jews had constructed the absurd accusation that the singing sisters had sent encrypted secret messages to the enemy during a radio broadcast in their songs. In June 1946, the youngest sister left the trio and was replaced by the 21- year-old Maria Bria. The newly formed trio sang in 1947 in South America, until it disbanded in 1952.

In 2008, a documentary film Tulip Time, the rise and fall of Trio Lescano was released on the trio. The film was first presented at the Jewish Film Festival in San Francisco.

2010 was directed by Maurizio Zaccaro the television miniseries The Swing Girls (Le Ragazze dello Swing). It was aired on October 19, 2012 from German - French television station Arte and repeated in December 2013.
