Tuomas Pihlman

Tuomas Pihlman ( born November 13, 1982 in Espoo ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who is since 2011 at JYP Jyvaskyla of the Finnish SM- liiga in under contract.

Career

Tuomas Pihlman began his career as a hockey player in the youth of Hyvinkään Ahmat. When he was 13 years old, he moved with his parents to Jyväskylä and played from then on for the youth teams of JYP Jyväskylä. In the season 1999/2000 he made his debut for the first team of the club in the SM- liiga, but was still mostly at the U20 Junior used. In the following season he was part of the senior squad by JYP and established himself within the team. During the NHL Entry Draft 2001 Pihlmanin the second round than a total of 48 players selected by the New Jersey Devils.

In 2002 he received contract offers several teams, but remained at the urging of coach Matti Alatalo at his home club. In the 2002/03 season with 34 points scorer, he managed to breakthrough in the SM- liiga, but he profited by his fellow players Jarkko Immonen and Antti Virtanen, with whom he formed the so-called "VIP Suite". Due to the benefits shown, the Devils took him to North America, where he made his debut in the National Hockey League announced during the 2003/ 04 season, where he remained no points in two games. The rest of the season, however, and during the lockout in the season 2004/ 05, the Finn stood for New Jersey's farm team in the American Hockey League, the Albany River Rats, on the ice.

After two seasons in which Pihlman was used only sporadically for New Jersey, he returned in the summer of 2007 returned to his Finnish homeland, where he was bound by his former club JYP Jyväskylä. There he met again Immonen and Virtanen, with whom he again formed a row and the JYP led to the Finnish championship at the end of the season 2008 /09. Pihlman contributed to this success with a total of 67 points scorer. During the following season he was injured in January 2010 at the knee and had to undergo surgery so that he could play in the playoffs again until.

In October 2010 Pihlman received a contract with Jokerit Helsinki after he had received from his parent club in the summer of 2010, no contract extension. For the 2011/12 season he returned to JYP Jyväskylä.

Internationally

For Pihlman Finland took part in the U18 World Youth Championship in 2000, as well as the U20 World Junior Championships in 2001 and 2002 in part. In addition, he was in the squad of Finland in the World Championships 2009.
