Tupolev ANT-1

The Tupolev ANT -1 (Russian Туполев АНТ -1) is the first of Tupolev aircraft built in the 1920s, an experimental single-seat low -wing monoplane with radial engine. The ANT -1 was intended as a light sport aircraft, but was mainly used to test the aircraft in still relatively new material aluminum. The first flight took place on 20 October 1923.

Development

The aircraft was equipped with an Anzani radial engine with 35 hp and was able to maximum 125 km / h flying fast. The wingspan was 7.5 meters and the curb weight was only 205 kg.

1920 gave aviation charge of just under formation Soviet Union, various scientists commissioned to find an easy and hard suitable for aircraft aluminum alloy. 1922 were the first results in the form of the alloy " Koltschugalumin " (named after the place of manufacture Kolchugino ) ago. It was decided to use this material in the construction of ANT -1, led by Andrei Tupolev developed from the summer of 1922.

The aircraft had used a wooden frame hull with mostly fabric cover, the aluminum was in the wings, the tail ribs and planking of the hull front - and top. They were approximately 60% of the aircraft.

After the maiden flight took ANT -1 several successful test flights, the alternately N. by the pilots I. Petrov and E. I. Pogossi were completed. The trial was set, however, as the only available Anzani engine failed and was irreparably damaged. The whereabouts of the aircraft, there are contradictory statements. The aircraft manufacturer Tupolev himself claims that it had been destroyed in 1937, other sources claim that the aircraft was issued until at least 1941 in a museum.

Already the successor of the Tupolev ANT -2 was completely made of aluminum and is regarded as one of the first "real" aircraft aluminum in the world.
