Twinkie

Twinkies are cupcakes with cream filling, which were manufactured and marketed by the largest American Bakery Hostess Brands and are now manufactured by Saputo Incorporated 's Vachon Inc. in Canada.

History

Twinkies were (now Hostess ) invented around 1930 in Schiller Park ( Illinois) by James A. Dewar, a baker of Continental Bakeries. As Dewar noticed that many machines that make cream-filled strawberry cake, still stood outside the strawberry season, he developed a snack with banana filling and called him Twinkie. During the Second World War bananas were scarce, and the bakery replaced the filling with vanilla cream. This change proved to be so successful that it remained with the vanilla cream even after the end of the banana shortage.

After early 2012, the second time was filed for bankruptcy, Hostess Brands announced on 16 November, 2012 that the company would be closed and about 18,500 employees would lose their jobs. According to the company a changed consumer tastes, high raw material costs and, ultimately, a national strike for the closure were responsible. By placing the operation no more Twinkies were produced in the United States. However, they were still being manufactured in Montreal by the Saputo Incorporated 's Vachon Inc. which owns the product rights for Canada. After some parts of the group had been sold in the course of insolvency, the production of Twinkies and other products was resumed.
