Tyrnävä

Tyrnävä [ Tyrnävä ] is a municipality in Finland. It is located about 30 km south of the city of Oulu in Northern Ostrobothnia landscape.

The municipality was founded in 1865 and next to the village church Tyrnävä includes the villages Kolmikanta, Markkuu, Murto, Suutarinkylä, Temmes, Ylipää and Ängeslevä. The community Temmes was incorporated in 2001.

History

Tyrnävä was first mentioned in documents in 1581. A major step in the history of the place was the Great Northern War ( 1714-21 ), during which, according to the church register 706 inhabitants of the village were killed; further 136 were deported to Russia. From 1906 Tyrnävä was also the seat and the brand name of one of the largest dairy farms in Finland, but gave up the operation in 1950. As a result, the farmers of the community rose from the livestock industry to the potatoes. Today, in addition to the municipal administration of the liquor producers Shaman Spirits is one of the main employers, which processes most of the local potato production to vodka. With the brand Bothnia Bay Dry Gin, the company has arguably the world's single Gin potato-based in its range.

Attractions

The 750 People comprehensive wooden church in the village was in 1873 by the architect FW Lüchow built. Another wooden church dating from 1767 is located in the village Temmes.
