History

In 1094, more precisely on 14 March, the place name first appeared on a document. This fact does not mean that the village has only existed since that time. Certainly it is at the foot of Mount Iseli earlier a cluster of houses have had. This assumption can be proven with the help of local Nahm research. Place names with the suffix "- ingen" the first phase of land acquisition are assigned by the Alemanni namely. This means that about 600 AD Alemanni settled in this area. Precise data are lacking, since there are no written sources from this period. Even in the 11th century could only read and write very few people. The art of writing, have left the Alemanni, who populated the entire Swiss Mittelland at that time the ecclesiastical and monastic officials. Thus we find in the early Middle Ages, primarily certificates that are associated with a monastery or a church. Very often it is deeds of gift, in which the monastery someone assigns his goods. Are written only the names of the donor and present witnesses.

Also in the document, in which the name " Uesslingen " appears for the first time, it is such a Latin deed of gift. A certain Rupert and his nephews Erlewin and Eberhard give the Monastery of St. Salvator in Schaffhausen their possessions in Thurgau, who was in the region of Matzingen. This donation was made subject to the conditions that the monastery the memory of the family always keep high and that Eberhard and his brother were taken to the monastery of St. Salvador. For her mother with her maids should be provided in a nunnery. The accuracy of this document was witnessed by 18 people. Among them we find a certain " Rihiwin de Uselinga ", the "originator " of the village's history. The family seat of this dynasty is said to have been found within the village Iselisberg.
