History

The first Ukrainian immigrants were established immediately after the end of World War II in London. They were mostly soldiers from Ukraine, who belonged to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and were at risk of persecution. Pope Pius XII. then founded, with the bull Quia Christ on June 10, 1957, the Apostolic Exarchate England and Wales ( Inghilterra e Galles ). With the decree Apostolica Constitutione took it on May 12, 1968, the name Apostolic Exarchate UK. The Archbishop of Westminster William Godfrey had run from 1957 to 1963 the Exarchate of England and Wales in a secondary function. His full-time successor acquired the " King's Weigh House Church " in London, she left for the Byzantine Rite rebuilt and dedicated it to the "Holy Family in Exile ". With the establishment of the Church and the establishment of a bishopric, the church received the nomination for " Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of The Holy Family in Exile ". The name suggests refers to the flight of the Holy Family to Egypt. Benedict XVI. erhobt it on January 18, 2013 Eparchy.
