Ulf Nilsson (ice hockey)

Ulf Gösta Nilsson (May 11, 1950 in Nynäshamn ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player ( center ), who played from 1974 to 1983 for the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League and the Winnipeg Jets in the World Hockey Association.

Career

In Sweden he played for AIK Solna. The Swedish ice hockey team, he played at the World Championships in 1973, a series with Ulf Sterner and won silver. In the 1974 World Cup, he was after the first game, a 4-1 win over Poland, tested positive for ephedrine and immediately for the remainder of the tournament locked. The game was subsequently evaluated with 0:5, Sweden won the match but despite the two points lost the bronze medal. Nilsson and the Finn Stig Wetzell, who tested positive for ephedrine also at this World Cup, were the first detected cases of doping of the ice hockey world championship history. Both were locked after the tournament 18 months for international matches.

In 1974 he played with the Winnipeg Jets in common with his fellow countryman Anders Hedberg in a row with the legendary Bobby Hull. The three formed one of the strongest storm ranks of the WHA. In his four years there, he helped the team to the championship twice, the AVCO World Trophy to lead. Above all, thanks to numerous templates he was always among the best scorers of the WHA and could always achieve significantly more than 100 points in his four seasons. With 484 points, he is the most successful European of the WHA.

Together with Anders Hedberg, he joined the 1978/79 season to the New York Rangers in the NHL. Here we nominated him for the Challenge Cup in 1979. During his time in the NHL Injuries plagued him. The 1981/82 season he missed completely, and he only played twice for the Springfield Indians of the American Hockey League. The following year he played three games in the Central Hockey League for the Tulsa Oilers before he went ten times for the Rangers on the ice.
