United Internet
The United Internet AG based in Montabaur is a publicly listed Internet providers and listed on the Nasdaq. The company operates a total of eight brands and numerous subsidiaries in two business segments. Nucleus of the group is 1 & 1 Internet AG, which generates most of the Group's sales.
History
The history of the company dates back to the 1 & 1 EDV -Marketing GmbH, which is founded in 1988 by Ralph Dommermuth and Wendelin Abresch as service providers for marketing and advertising. In the 1990s, the company grows to a large group, in addition to web hosting packages also offers its own online service that allows users to dial into the Internet itself.
In 1998, 1 Internet AG is the 1 & participation at the Karlsruhe Internet provider Schlund Partner, which will be increased in 2000 to 100 percent. In the course of the establishment of the United Internet AG, under whose umbrella the entire web hosting and access business in subgroup 1 & 1 has been merged.
First United Internet operates as a partnership limited by shares, but later transformed into a pure corporation. The Company is the successor to the 1 & 1 GmbH & Co. KG.
The company is traded on the stock exchange since March 1998, while ordinary shares come with a theoretical share in the capital of one euro to use. The IPO of United Internet is still before the wedding of the new economy, but the stock reached on the first trading day closing at over 200 percent of the issue price.
In the years 2000 to 2003, the occurrence of subsidiary 1 & 1 in various foreign markets, including Britain, France and the United States takes place.
In May 2005, takes over United Internet portal and e -mail business from Web.de, which is merged together with the in-house offer GMX in the 1 & 1 Mail & Media GmbH.
In early December 2008, announced that United Internet will take over the united-domains AG, headquartered in Starnberg for around 34 million euros.
In May 2009, United Internet is pleased to announce the acquisition of the DSL business Freenet AG. So go the last approximately 700,000 DSL customers for a total of 123 million euros to United Internet. Products

1 & 1
The 1 & 1 Internet AG ( 1 & 1 called ) is the nucleus of the group and one of the world's largest Internet provider. It offers products in the web hosting and access segment, which is often resorted to the technical infrastructure of other operators such as Telefónica Germany, German Telekom and Vodafone. The headquarters of 1 & 1 is also located in Montabaur, other locations within Germany are Karlsruhe and two bridges. International, 1 & 1 Internet AG still present in London, Sarreguemines, Chesterbrook in Philadelphia, Cebu City and Bucharest.

WEB.DE
Web.de (proper spelling WEB.DE ) is an Internet portal that was founded in 1999. Web.de started as editorial assisted directory - similar to the Open Directory Project - and changed until today to a general news service.

GMX
GMX, founded in 1998, since 2001 is one of United Internet and is pursuing a similar strategy as WEB.DE: In addition to an Internet portal GMX occurs mainly as an e -mail provider that offers free next to mailboxes and toll fares. For some other brands of United Internet InterNetX acts as a central domain registrar. The company is in direct competition with its sister company united-domains.
Fasthosts
The Fasthosts Internet Ltd. was founded in November 1999 in the UK and is in the field of web hosting, domains, e -Commerce and e-mail hosting active. Fasthosts heard since May 2006, United Internet, has spent for the acquisition of 61.5 million pounds (about 90 million euros ). According to the company Fasthosts manage up to a million domains and boasts 5,000 customers one of the largest resellers in the country. Since 2009 the company has a subsidiary in the United States.
Sedo
Sedo is a global market for the trading and marketing of domains. Following the acquisition by United Internet in 2005 it was integrated into the so-called AdLINK Group, which lasted until the dissolution or the sale of Hi-Media. Since 2010, Sedo will operate under the Sedo Holding AG, which is headquartered in Cologne and has offices in the UK and the USA.
With almost 16 million traded Domains Sedo is the market leader in the secondary market for domains. Also in the domain parking Sedo is one of the world's leading suppliers. In addition, Sedo offers services such as the evaluation of Domains.
Affilinet
Affilinet specializes in marketing through affiliate marketing and is one of the largest such networks at all. Across Europe, about 2,500 programs and more than 530,000 websites are registered there. Affilinet maintains in addition to the German office in Munich ( headquarters) and Hannover (technology) nor offices in France (Paris), United Kingdom ( London), The Netherlands ( Haarlem ) and Spain ( Madrid).
Arsys
In August 2013, United Internet announced the 100% acquisition of the Spanish web host Arsys via 1 & 1 Internet AG. Arsys claims to be the largest Spanish web host with 150,000 customers and EUR 40 million in annual sales, the brand should be managed independently in Spain.
Structure
United Internet is structured as a coordinated group. All companies are assigned to one of two subgroups 1 & 1 or Sedo. Essentially, United Internet is divided into the following companies:

- Sedo Holding AG, Cologne Sedo GmbH, Cologne
- Affilinet GmbH, Munich

Importance
United Internet including Deutsche Telekom one of the largest Internet provider in Europe. Because of the two brands WEB.DE and GMX, the Group achieved an enormous range, as both sides are among the 15 most frequently requested services in Germany. This means that United Internet generates a significant portion of its revenues from advertising.

Data centers
United Internet has several data centers in Germany. One of the largest with more than 25,000 servers located in Karlsruhe. In August 2006, United announced Internet to build in Lenexa (Kansas) in the U.S. data center for more than 40,000 servers, which was taken in mid-2007.
For the end of 2009 the commissioning of a new data center in the former MOX fuel fabrication plant was planned in New Hanau. This site is designed to provide space for more than 100,000 servers .. United Internet operates its own backbone, with the data centers at various Internet nodes, for example, DE- CIX, INXS, AMS -IX and LINX are tethered.
