United Jazz Rock Ensemble

The United Jazz Rock Ensemble (abbreviated United or UJRE ) was a fusion band that existed from 1977 to 2002 and sizes of jazz and jazz-rock from all over Europe united.

In its approximate five to six brass big band line-up, the ensemble played mostly original compositions. The style of the pieces is connected to the jazz-rock mainly, but also other styles of music are represented. In particular, Charlie Mariano brought by his experience with Indian music occasionally ethnic influences in the repertoire of the band.

History

In 1975, the planning director Werner Schretzmeier to turn the youth series Golden Sunday for the South German Radio. For this series, a studio group should be established. Schretzmeier turned to Wolfgang Dauner, for whom he had previously worked as manager of the avant-garde group, et cetera. Because of the target group, the music was rocking and not be a "pure" jazz. Dauner spoke to acquaintances, the rock- oriented as it were, such as drummer Jon Hiseman. Thus the formation, with already almost all later members of United was born.

The individual members of the band had successfully made before the establishment and also parallel to the existence of the United Jazz Rock Ensemble music in different styles, which is why the UJRE was also called " band leader of the band ". The technically outstanding artistic position of the musicians is also shown by the fact that some of them taught at (music) universities or even teach. This characteristic diversity of different, equivalent musicians, each of whom own compositions - often out of work with his own ensembles - contributed to the repertoire, caused a lot of variety and gave the band a certain experimental touch.

In 2002 came with the " Farewell Tour 2002" the farewell of the group of joint appearances. This was due not least by the Parkinson's Disease by Barbara Thompson.
