United States House Committee on the Judiciary

The United States House Committee on the Judiciary (also: House Judiciary Committee ) is a standing committee of the House of Representatives of the United States. The current chairman is Lamar S. Smith (R -TX), leader of the opposition ( Ranking Member), John Conyers (D - MI).

Remit

The Committee was established on June 3, 1813 and began with the task of advising on the rules for legal proceedings. Since then, the task area has steadily increased. Today, the Committee shall exercise control over the legal system of the United States, protecting the economy from unlawful actions and monopoly practices, monitor compliance with civil rights, the ratio of states governs with each other as well as claims against the United States, shall exercise supervision over the prisons, makes for compliance with the protection of patents and brand names, watches over " subversive " actions which threaten the internal security of the United States, regulates the succession of Presidents and sees to the proper performance of the duties of elected officials, including the President of the United States. It is also the body of the Congress, which conducts hearings on impeachment ( " Impeachment " ) of elected officials.
