Unity (Latvian political party)

Vienotība ( German: Unity, short V) is a political party in Latvia, which was established on August 6, 2011. It is the fusion of the liberal- conservative parties Jaunais laiks, Pilsoniskā Savieniba and Sabiedrība Citai Politikai. Since 2010 Vienotība already existed as an electoral alliance. In the election to the 11th Saeima Vienotība won 20 of 100 seats.

History

On 29 January 2009 an agreement on cooperation between the three parties has been completed. At times, was also a participation of the parties of the Alliance Visu Latvijai talking. On 6 March 2010, the founding congress of " Vienotība " took place. Ģirts Valdis Kristovskis was elected chairman and named Valdis Dombrovskis as a possible candidate for the office of Prime Minister.

In the election to the 10th Saeima on 2 October 2010 Vienotība was with 31,22 % of the votes strongest force in parliament and formed a coalition with the party alliance Latvijas Zemnieku Savieniba / Latvijas Zaļā partija. As part of a rotation principle Solvita Āboltiņa was party chairman in March 2011.

On August 6, 2011 Vienotība was founded as a party. In the parliamentary elections in September 2011, the party won 18.8 % of the votes and formed with the Zatlera reformu partija and Visu Latvijai! Tēvzemei ​​un - Brīvībai / LNNK the new government. Vienotība presented in the Cabinet Dombrovskis III again the Prime Minister.
