The University of California, Los Angeles ( UCLA) was founded in 1919 and is the third-oldest campus of the University of California. UCLA is one of the most prestigious universities in the world and is located in the district of Westwood in Los Angeles. In particular, the Business School, the John E. Anderson Graduate School of Management, achieved annual top rankings. In the current U.S. News Ranking 2009, all U.S. business schools it peaked at number 7, before the Harvard Business School or Berkeley's Haas Business School. The University is located since 1927 in Westwood Village, Bel Air and Holmby Hills between, before, she was at the Vermont Avenue in Hollywood. The university is a member of the Association of American Universities, an existing association of leading research-intensive since 1900, North American universities. She took part in the 1969 Arpanet, the forerunner of today's Internet. This makes it one along with three other research institutions to the first four participants who were connected with Internet technology. There currently teach five Nobel Prize winners at UCLA. 2014, more than 105,800 people have applied, which is a new record. She was elected by the Academic Ranking of World Universities for the 12 best university in the world.

UCLA School of Law is one of the most prestigious law schools in the United States. In the current U.S. News rankings it is ranked No. 15, The Anderson School of Management - one of the most famous business schools in the U.S. - is also part of UCLA. It is among the top 20 rankings (as of 2005).

Of the total of 37 221 students enrolled in 2005, 20,041 ( 53.8 %) were women. Work more than 22,000 employees at the twelve faculties. 2011, only 25.5 % of applicants were admitted.

The sports teams call the UCLA Bruins. The University is a member of the Pacific -12 Conference. Mascot is the " Bruin Bear". Between the USC Trojans and the UCLA Bruins prevails traditionally a strong rivalry.

Landmarks on campus is primarily the Royce Hall and the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden. For the UCLA Hammer Museum in Westwood (mainly Impressionism and Others by Monet ) and the Fowler Museum is on campus ( art history from around the world ).
