The University of East London ( UEL ) is a large state university in London.

The facilities are located in the districts of Stratford, Barking and Docklands directly on the Royal Albert Dock. The University is considered to be modern and has many international collaborations. They were enrolled in 2011, approximately 28,000 students.

The university has the status as such only since 1992, after technical colleges were raised by an amendment to the rank of a university. It was founded in 1970 as North East London Polytechnic and changed its name later in the Polytechnic of East London.
