University of Pristina (1969–1999)

The University of Pristina (Albanian Universiteti i Prishtinës; Latin Universitas Studiorum Prishtiniensis ) is a university in the Kosovo capital Pristina. Named after Hasan Prishtina University was founded in 1970 and is the largest educational and research institution in the country.

History

The University of Prishtina was founded on February 15, 1970, and 1989, the only university in the Albanian majority in the autonomous province of Kosovo. In it was taught both in Albanian and in Serbian by the University Act of 1969. For a long time the only Albanian-language university in the former Yugoslavia, which is why there were students from Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro.

The introduction of mandatory Serbian curriculum in 1991 with the codification of the Serbian as the sole language of instruction at schools and universities in Kosovo led to arguments that have been presented in different ways.

After the presentation of Albanian Albanian professors and students were expelled by police forces all of the faculty buildings in the school year 1991/92 and Serbian teachers and students moved into the building. After the presentation of Serbian Albanian faculty and students left the university voluntarily in the course of the boycott of the binding Serbian curriculum.

The Kosovo Albanians displaced offering courses in private homes and apartments where the lessons and the tests were continued in the Albanian language.

(Entered into force on March 23, 1998) On September 1, 1996 in Belgrade, at the suggestion of Ibrahim Rugova and international mediation, the agreement 3 3 closed, bringing the return of Albanian faculty and students should be allowed into the University. Under the agreement, 3 3 " received " Albanians 60 %, Serbs 35% and the Turkish minority 5% of the university.

During the Kosovo war, a Serbian professor and two employees in 1999 were killed in the building of the Faculty of Economics .. In the same year left in 1999, the Serbian faculty, the faculty building at the University of Prishtina and moved to the north of the city of Kosovska Mitrovica buildings available. This Serbian university still bears the name Priština University - Kosovska Mitrovica.

In return, the Albanian faculty returned to the faculty building at the University of Prishtina and continues to use the original name University.

2010, the University became a member of the network of Balkan universities.

Faculties

At the University of Pristina has 17 faculties at several locations. The catalog includes the Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Medicine, the Economic Faculty, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Faculty of Agriculture in Prishtina, the Faculty of Education in Prizren, and a faculty for wood processing and materials science in Gjilan and a Faculty of Geology and Mining in South Mitrovica.
