University of the Gambia

The University of The Gambia (English University of The Gambia ) ( UTG ) is the only public university in the African country of Gambia.
The campus of the university, founded in 1998 is located in Serekunda - Kanifing, the largest city of the Gambia. Chancellor ( in countries of the Commonwealth of Nations = Rector ) of the University, which began teaching in March 1999 with about 300 students, is President Yahya Jammeh. The teaching staff includes 44 persons (2002 ) and 2000 students are enrolled.
The government of The Gambia has provided to give rise to a new campus at Faraba Banta.

The university is organized into four faculties:
- Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences
- Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
- Faculty of Information Technology and Communications offering
- Faculty of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences at the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital
- Faculty of Science and Agriculture
