University of the Visayas

The University of the Visayas is located in the province of Cebu in the Philippines. It is regarded as an important educational institution in the administrative region of Central Visayas.

Locations

The university is divided into eight locations:

  • University of the Visayas (headquarters), Colon Street, Cebu City
  • Gulla's Medical Center, Barangay Banilad, Mandaue City
  • Maritime College, Lapu -Lapu City

Other sites are located in Toledo City, Dalaguete, Minglanilla and Compostela.

Faculties

The University of the Visayas is home to fourteen different faculties, these are divided into high school and technical college areas, as well as vocational education in colleges. These include the Gulla's College of Law, the Gulla's College of Medicine and the College of Density, Pharmacy, Arts and Science, Business Administration, Criminal Justice and Education.

History

The University's history began in 1919, when Don Vicente Gulla founded the Visayan Institute and in rented rooms of City Central School taught 37 students for the first time. 1948 the Institute received the status of a university, since an extensive expansion program was being followed.
