Unterrothorn

The Unterrothorn is a 3'104 m above sea level. M. high mountain in the canton of Valais, close to Zermatt. The Unterrothorn is located about 5 km east of the village and marks the highest point of the ski resort Zermatt Rothorn, which can be reached by Sunnega and blue stove by Metro, a gondola and a cable car or by the Kumme ago by a chairlift.

At the summit there is a small restaurant, the hill station and a small weather station. In summer as in winter, the Rothorn attracts numerous tourists. The Rothorn offers a beautiful view of the Matterhorn and the mountain is the beginning of many departures to Zermatt, on the other hand start there also alpine tours to the Rimpfischhorn, the Strahlhorn or after Cima di Jazzi. Another walk leads to the Oberrothorn ( 3'414 m above sea level. M. ). In the panorama of the Rothorn are in addition to the Matterhorn of the Dent Blanche, the Monte Rosa massif, the White Horn and the mixing Abel.
