Uruguayan general election, 1954

The government and parliamentary elections in Uruguay in 1954 found on Sunday, 28 November 1954.

From the concurrent government and parliamentary elections, the Partido Colorado, which included three Sublemas, the winner emerged, the Partido Nacional, who also belonged to three Sublema subject.

In the elections, the electoral system was aligned so-called Lema system of relative majority, was both the constitutional amendment of 1952 again introduced nine-member collegial executive, known as the Consejo Nacional de Gobierno (CNG), and the 99 deputies and 31 senators in selected part of a proportional representation for a term of four years. On March 1, 1955, the Consejo Nacional de Gobierno joined with a majority of Lista 15 to the official business. He sat down beside composed of nine members.   • Partido Colorado: 51.5 % ( the two strongest Sublema: Lista 15 (fraction Luis Batlle Berres ): 33.3 %; Lista 14 (traditional Batllismo Group ): 15.2%)
  • Partido Nacional: 35.4 % ( the two strongest Sublema: Herrera Group: 22.2%; Movimiento Nacionalista Popular: 12.1%)
  • Other parties: 13.1%

The distribution of seats in the Cámara de Senadores:

  • Partido Colorado: 54.8 %
  • Partido Nacional: 35.5%
  • Other parties: 6.4%

Election result with respect to the parties

  • Eligible voters: 1,295,502
  • Valid Votes: 879 242
  • Turnout: 67.86 %
