Usinens

Usinens is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Usinens is located on 417 m above sea level. M., near Bellegarde- sur -Valserine, approximately 25 km west-northwest of the city of Annecy ( straight line ). The farming village extends a scenic location on a ridge above the Vallée des Usses, shortly before its opening to the Rhone Valley, in Genevois.

The area of ​​7.63 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western Genevois. The western boundary runs predominantly along the Godette, the southward flowing here in a little valley to Usses. From the creek, the municipality's area extends eastward over the slope of Usinens up to the high plateau between the valleys of the Rhône and Usses. Here is 528 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Usinens. To the southeast of the communal land extends into the wooded valley of the majority Usses.

To Usinens addition to the actual center also includes several hamlets settlements and farmsteads, including:

  • Bénoz (370 m above sea level. M. ) west on the slopes of the Taleinschnitts Godette
  • Châtel (270 m above sea level. M. ) at the confluence of Godette and Usses
  • Croix (380 m above sea level. M. ) on the northern slope of the valley of the Usses

Neighboring communities of Usinens are Chêne -en- Semine in the north, and Vanzy Desingy in the east, Seyssel and Bassy in the south and Challonges in the West.

History

The territory of Usinens was already inhabited during the Roman period. First mentioned is the place in the 13th century under the name Uzinengus and Usenens; of 1303 the name Usunens is preserved. The name goes back to the Burgundian personal names Uswin and means with the suffix -ene as much as the people of Uswin. In the Middle Ages Usinens was under the dominion of the castellany Châtel.

Attractions

The village church of Usinens dates from the 19th century. In Châtel is a chapel. The Château de Châtel, which was built in the 13th century, was later repeatedly renovated and redesigned.

Population

With 354 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Usinens one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 20th century, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1901 were still in Usinens counted 556 inhabitants). Since the early 1990s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Usinens is a predominantly coined by farming village today. Usinens in the wine region of Savoie. White wines from the grape Altesse ( locally called roussette ) may be marketed under the protected designation of origin roussette de Savoie. For white wines, red wines and other grape varieties, the AOC Vin de Savoie applies.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. Local road connections are made with Seyssel, Chêne -en- Semine and Challonges. The nearest links to the A40 motorway is located at a distance of about 8 km.
