V. R. Nedunchezhiyan

VR Nedunchezhiyan (also Nedunchezhian; Tamil: இரா நெடுஞ்செழியன் IRA Neṭuñceḻiyaṉ [ ˌ neɖɯɲ ʒeɻijən ]; born July 11, 1920 in Tirukkannapuram; † January 12, 2000 in Chennai.. ) Was an Indian politician (DMK and AIADMK ). He was twice (1969 and 1987/ 88) for short periods amt leading Chief Minister of the state of Tamil Nadu. Besides held Nedunchezhiyan 1967-76, 1980-87 and 1991-96 various ministerial offices under the chief ministers CN Annadurai, M. Karunanidhi, MG Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa. By his supporters, he was awarded the honorary title Navalar ( நாவலர் Navalar [ nɑ ʋələr ː ] " scholar " ) considered.

Early years and time in the DMK

VR Nedunchezhiyan was born on July 11, 1920 in the village in the district of Thanjavur Tirukkannapuram. During his studies at the Annamalai University, he came into contact with politics and joined in 1944, founded by EV Ramasami organization Dravidar Kazhagam ( DK ) on.

1949 belonged VR Nedunchezhiyan of the founding members of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK ) which seceded under CN Annadurai of the DK. From 1949 to 1955 Nedunchezhiyan was Deputy Secretary-General, from 1955 to 1961 and Secretary from 1961 to 1969 Chairman of the Council of the DMK party. In 1962 he was first elected to the Parliament of the State of Madras and served as opposition leader. The next elections in 1967 won the DMK and came to power in the state of Madras, which was renamed in Tamil Nadu little later. In the new cabinet headed by CN Annadurai VR Nedunchezhiyan was Deputy Chief Minister.

After Annadurais death on February 3, 1969 Nedunchezhiyan took over as acting office as Chief Minister. But he could not prevail in the internal party power struggle against his rival M. Karunanidhi himself, so this was chosen on 10 February for the new Chief Minister. While Karunanidhis tenure Nedunchezhiyan was continued until 1976 Deputy Chief Minister.

Time in the AIADMK

After the Karunanidhi government was deposed in 1976, Nedunchezhiyan left the DMK and founded together with another former DMK politician, Sathyavani Muthu, his own party, the Makkal DMK. The elections in 1977 won the AIADMK, which had split under the leadership of actor MG Ramachandran of the DMK, and a year later, Nedunchezhiyan graduated with his Makkal DMK the AIADMK on. In the cabinet MG Ramachandran VR Nedunchezhiyan served from 1980 to 1987 as Minister of Finance. After MG Ramachandran's death on December 29, 1987 Nedunchezhiyan again took over as acting the Office of the Chief Minister. On 7 January 1988 but was Janaki Ramachandran, MG Ramachandran's widow, was sworn in as Chief Minister.

In the power struggle that broke out then in the AIADMK for the succession MG Ramachandran, Nedunchezhiyan be presented at the J. Jayalalithaas page. Due to internal squabbles, he was expelled from the party in August 1988, but returned in October 1989 back to the reunited under the leadership Jayalalithaas AIADMK. After the electoral victory of the AIADMK, he served from 1991 to 1996 as Minister of Finance in the government Jayalalithaas.

On 12 January 2000 VR Nedunchezhiyan died at the age of 79 of heart failure. He left behind his wife and a son.
