Vadans, Haute-Saône

Vadans is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vadans situated at an altitude of 203 m above sea level, 8 km north of Pesmes and 35 km west-northwest of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village extends to the south of the department, east of Saôneebene in the valley of the brook Résie between the vast forests Gros Bois and Bois lady.

The area of ​​12.95 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside between the valleys of Ognon in the south and Saône in the north. From east to west, the area is crossed by the Talniederung the Résie that provides drainage for Ognon. The valley has a width of about a kilometer away and is on average 200 m. In Vadans the side stream Ruisseau de Sainte -Cécile enters the valley. Is flanked on both sides by the Talniederung a plateau lying at an average 220 ​​m. It is composed of Tertiary sediments and is used mainly agricultural, but mostly it is covered with forest. To the southeast, the municipality's area extends into the Bois de la face. Neighboring communities of Vadans are Germigney and Le Tremblois in the north, and Lieucourt Valay in the east, Chevigney and La Grande- Résie in the south and Broye Aubigney - Montseugny in the West.

History

Some findings indicate that the municipality of Vadans was already inhabited in the Neolithic period. In the Middle Ages Vadans belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Pesmes. Ecclesiastically the place belonged to St. John Coming of Montseugny. Together with the Franche -Comté Vadans came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. With the inauguration of the railway line from Marnay by Gray in 1910 the village was connected to the French railroad network. The operation of the line, however, was reinstated. Today Vadans is a member of the 18 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Val de Pesmes.

Attractions

The village church of Vadans was rebuilt in the 18th century. In an Oratory at the village entrance is a statue of Christ from the 16th century. Also from the 16th century comes a seat of power. In the Bois lady the remains of a medieval castle are visible.

Population

With 138 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Vadans one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 325 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Vadans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Valay after Broye. Further road links exist with Chevigney, Germigney and Lieucourt.
