The Vakhsh ( Tajik Вахш or وخش, also Vachs, Vakhsh and Vachsch ) is a 524 km long right or north of the Amu Darya river source in Tajikistan in Central Asia. The lower section of the river of the Vakhsh River Kysylsu source and the upper section of the river to the mouth of the Vakhsh Obichingou is also Surchob ( Сурхоб ).

River

It is formed at the confluence of Kysylsu and Muksu south of the Alai Mountains in the north of Tajikistan and from there flows towards the southwest. The water overcomes the Rogun dam, the Nurek Dam and the two dams Sangtuda -1 and Sangtuda -2. However, the Vakhsh united on the border of Tajikistan and Afghanistan to touch the opposite Afghan bank of the river Panj to the Amu Darya, without at the junction. In this area also the Tigrowaja - Balka Nature Reserve and the source of the Oxus treasure lies. Larger tributaries of the Vakhsh are Koksu and Sarbog from the right and from the left Obichingou.

On the shore or near the Vakhsh river are the towns Norak ( Nurek ) and Qurghonteppa ( Kurgan - Tyube ) and Vakhsh.
