Valaská Dubová

Valaská Dubová ( until 1927 slovak " Wallachian Dubová "; Hungarian Oláhdubova, latin Dubova Valachorum ) is a municipality in the northern central Slovakia with 795 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), the Region belongs to Okres Ružomberok, a circle of Žilinský and the traditional landscape Liptau is counted.

Geography

The municipality is located in the narrow valley of the brook Likavka between the mountains of Great Fatra ( lower part Šípska Fatra ) and Chočské Hills. North of the village lies the pass Brestová (720 m nm) and east of the mountain Velky Choc ( 1611 m nm). The center is located at an altitude of 649 m nm and is located seven kilometers north of Ružomberok and eight kilometers south of Dolny Kubin.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1323 as Dubova writing. The adjective Valaská (or Hungarian Oláh ) is reminiscent of the Wallachian colonization of the area from the 14th to the 17th century. For this reason, the inhabitants were mostly worked as a shepherd. Initially, the town belonged to the manor of Castle Likava and was thus in the county Liptau, 1556 changed the ownership to the castle and able to Arwa Arwa county.

1750 a brick church was built in 1815 and expanded. 1828 are listed 99 houses and 743 inhabitants.

Until 1918, the town belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and was then Czechoslovakia and Slovakia today. 1935 were 121 houses and two water mills a major fire. After a circle change in 1941 Valaská Dubová came back to Liptau, as part of the Okres Ružomberok.
