Valaškovce

Valaškovce is a military area and the name of the former municipality in Okres Humenné, Eastern Slovakia. The congruent Truppenübungsplatz called Kamenica nad Cirochou ( according to the same community).

The area is located in the Vihorlat and covers 119.23 km ². It is wooded to 85 percent and the highest mountain of the Vihorlatgebirges, which is also called Vihorlat, is in the field, with the height of 1076 m nm The former village is located 15 km east of the city Humenné.

The former municipality ( Hungarian name until 1918 was Pásztorhegy ) was founded in 1630 and was first mentioned in 1635. The residents of the community, which at that time had 49 houses were evicted in 1937 and abandoned the church to make room for a military training area. The majority of the inhabitants settled in Nové Valaškovce, a district of Humenné. Finally, the area was declared on February 1, 1952 military area, which covers the whole land of Valaškovce and parts of the cadastral further 13 municipalities.

From the former municipality only the church, a cemetery and some gardens have been preserved.

The military base is still active today and used a resolution is not planned in the near future.
