Valcour Island

Valcour is a 3 km long and one mile wide island in Lake Champlain in the United States in the state of New York, which forms a bottleneck to the mainland to go. It is the third largest island in Lake Champlain, according to "The Hero " and " Isle la Motte of Vermont ." Their banks have alternately rocky, rugged or sandy beaches. Several sheltered bays offer anchorages. The Lighthouse Bluff Point Light stands at the western end of the island. He led from 1871 to 1930 the boats through the throat until it was replaced by a steel tower.

On October 11, 1776, the Battle of Valcour called sea battle between the British and American navies was fought during the American War of Independence in the throat.
