Valdecoxib ( Bextra ® trade name ) is a drug from the group of cyclooxygenase -2 inhibitors ( syn. COX -2 inhibitors or coxibs ) Pfizer.
The U.S. FDA has asked Pfizer in February 2005 to take valdecoxib from the market. The reasons were:
- Lack of long-term data on cardiovascular safety
- It has been reported serious allergic skin reactions after the use of valdecoxib
- Failure to demonstrate a benefit of valdecoxib compared to other NSAIDs
The European approval after suspension in 2005 now expired.
