Vallamand

Vallamand was a municipality in the district Broye Vully in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. July 1, 2011 Vallamand went on in the new community Vully -les -Lacs. The place Vallamand consists of two parts Vallamand- Dessus, which formed the actual municipality Vallamand, and Vallamand lingerie that politically belongs to the municipality Bellerive. In the new community Vully -les -Lacs both districts are thus united.

Geography

Vallamand is located on 516 m above sea level. M., 14.5 km northeast of the district main town Payerne ( straight line ). The farming village extends to a projection on the southern slope of the ridge between Lake Neuchâtel and Lake Morat, a scenic location about 80 m above the lake level of Lake Morat, the Swiss Plateau.

The area of ​​2.4 km ² large municipality area includes a section on the northwestern shore of Lake Murten. The communal land extends from the shore northward over the flat riparian strips ( Pré des Peupliers ) to the wide Molassehöhenrücken, which forms the southwestern continuation of the Mont Vully. In the forest area Bois de l' Allou is 588 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Vallamand. East of the village of Bach Ruisseau de ferrages has dug in the course of millions of years a deep erosion valley in the molasse. From the municipality surface 1997 14 % came from settlements, 23 % of forest and woody plants, 62 % in agriculture and somewhat less than 1% was unproductive land.

To Vallamand include some isolated farms and cottages near the shore of Lake Murten. Neighboring communities of Vallamand were Bellerive, Cudrefin and Mur.

Population

With 389 inhabitants ( 31 December 2010) Vallamand was one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 57.8 % inhabitants are French-speaking, 38.4 % in German and 2.1 % English speaking (as of 2000). The official language is French. The population of Vallamand amounted in 1860 to 282 residents in 1900 to 340 inhabitants. After the population had declined by 1980 to 211 people, a significant population increase has been registered since then again. The proportion of the German population is growing rapidly. 1990, the proportion was just 25%.

Economy

Vallamand was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming and fruit growing have an important role in the economic structure of the population. At the optimally exposed to the sun southern slopes above Lake Murten wine production. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Some of the working population commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns. Vallamand has since 1998 on a marina on Lake Murten, with around 200 berths.

Traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares on a road from Salavaux after Cudrefin. By Postbus course, which runs from Avenches to Cudrefin, Vallamand is connected to the public transport network.

History

Finds from the Hallstatt period show a very early settlement of the municipality of Vallamand. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1246 under the name Ualamant; 1668 appeared the name Valaman. The place name is composed of the word together Val ( valley ) and the persons name Amandus or Amantius.

Vallamand been since the Middle Ages part of Kastlanei Cudrefin that stood until 1397 under the Lords of Grandson, then under the influence of Savoy. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Avenches. After the collapse of the ancien régime Vallamand in 1798 affiliated to the Canton of Fribourg during the Helvetic Republic. With the enactment of the Act of Mediation in 1803 the village was re- allocated together with the present-day district of Avenches an exclave of the Canton of Vaud. Currently (2005) runs a preliminary study for the merger of Vallamand with communities Constantine, Bellerive and Montmagny.

Attractions

The Chapel of Vallamand was built in 1899. The church belongs to the parish Montet - Cudrefin. In the center are some typical arable and wine farmhouses dating from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.
